Description
The phonograph was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. While other devices could record sound, Edison s invention allowed sound to be reproduced. It brought recorded music into homes, and businesses and into the lives of common folk. The phonograph transformed into record players that were widely used until the invention of the cassette player in the 1980s.
